Congratulations to Angel Cuevas, the winner of this year‘s John Wind, Accessories Award at Drexel University! Angel’s collection integrated jewelry in a meaningful and poetic way within her overall vision. As described in the artist’s statement:
In the Name of Love shows the vulnerability and beauty of a suffering for the sake of art with couture garments. Cuevas expresses her obsession with meticulous detail work and the pain that comes with it—with each look showcasing the figurative and literal experience of blood, sweat, and tears. Hand painted motifs of bleeding and blood spatter, the textile manipulations of salt-crusted fabric staining, beading, and knotting emulates intentional and controlled pain, serving as a form of performance art. Delicate nude silk fabric represents a second skin and another layer of technical difficulty, as it requires hand sewn couture seam finishes and hems. This collection is her blood, sweat, and tears made for the world in the name of love.
We loved hosting Angel for a visit to our studio this week, and wish her well in her future adventures! Stay in touch~
